Here are Some KEY things to look for in an Earthquake Preparedness Kit
Quality of the bag.
First Aid Kit...make sure your first aid kit has plenty of supplies.
Food...a 3600 calorie bar is a great food item to add to your bug out bag or surival kit. Anything smaller is going to be inadequate.
Flashlight and Radio...a solar radio is a GREAT addition.
Shelter, Heat and Warmth...as always, look for quality, but a space blanket or two is a great addition and a tube tent. Also some candles and WATER-PROOF matches.
