Government Shutdown - What Does it Mean for Us?
What is the Scenario in a Government Shutdown? There is a lot of talk about our government shutting down these days and with the government actually shutting down in Minnesota in the summer of 2011 it was a VERY real deal to anyone living in that state.
So the big question is," How does a shutdown affect us and how can we prepare for it?"
I personally think it is not so different than any other emergency preparedness planning. If we have enough food stored up for a year, and some sort of home generator or solar power to use as energy, we can function, regardless what happens around us.
Some of the biggest things that could affect people is the loss of social security checks, or health insurance, and not being able to get driver's licenses or renewals. So if your driver's license is about to expire, get it done before it is too late. Same with your vehicle registration tags. During a government shutdown, these are some of the offices that are iffy about remaining open.
But even in that, if things fall apart in the economy, there won't be any checks either, so the best thing we can do during a government shutdown is stock up on things like food, and energy resources, and be as self sufficient as possible to avoid as much hardship as possible till things get ironed out.
Hopefully it won't turn into a martial law kind of thing but there again, there are ways to prepare even for that. You can visit our "surviving martial law page for some interesting details on how to get ready for such a scenario.
The best thing we can do for ourselves and our families is to stay as informed as possible about what is happening in states where the government has shut down already and prepare accordingly.
