Start a Farm and Live off The Land

Looking to start a farm and live off the land?Regardless if you are looking at farming for survivalist reasons or for simply being able to live from the land, it is really not that hard to accomplish.
This may seem like basic info for some of you preppers. But BASIC is what we are all about here. Our site is designed to help folks with basic preparedness, because it works. We never stressed about a lot of things I read about on forums now and we survived just fine without the 'outside world' as we used to refer to anyone outside our Amish community. read some of the comments below... =)
Remember that most animals happily reproduce on their own so as long as you have the he and the she, of every animal you want to raise, you should be fine. There are many people that have small mini farms with enough animals to provide their milk, eggs, cheese and butter, and then with a small garden, they can pretty much live off the land. It's a great way to prepare for emergencies and survivalist plans.
Basic Small Farm Planning Here are a few basic options on what to start a small farm WITH.
- A dozen hens and a rooster... these will provide you with eggs and having a rooster will allow you to raise your own chicks.
As the hens get older, you will have meat as well.
- A cow... a good milk cow, such as a Jersey or Guernsey cow will provide enough milk to make a whole lot of things that you would normally buy in a grocery store such as:
- cream
- butter
- cheese
- sour cream
- yogurt
- buttermilk
- and of course, all the milk you need!
- Several barn cats to keep the mice down!
- A few Rabbits... these will multiply on their own and make a great addition to stew and your diet.
- Pigs...again , more meat for the table! Plus, pigs will eat your table scraps and garden produce that gets over ripe etc.
Chickens will eat everything pigs will so nothing goes to waste on a small farm!
- Garden spot... starting a farm is not complete without a garden!
Other great additions to a small farm to live off the land are:
- Flock of geese
- Pony
- Goats
- Orchard
- Pond
- Dog... no farm is complete without a farm dog!
