A survival shelter can be anything from a pile of brush to a fallout shelter to finding some small cabin plans to build yourself a small cabin in the woods.
OR you may want to have a bug out vehicle sitting in your backyard that is ready to go at a moment’s notice.
Most people that are looking at building a survival shelter of some sort may have a small piece of land tucked away in a remote area.
Having a cabin in a remote, off the grid area is not a bad idea, especially with the land prices in some areas. If you can pick up a small parcel of land for a few thousand dollars, go for it.
Find some small cabin plans, and build a shelter at your convenience, then stock it with about a year’s supply of food and essentials. And if you have a family or friends to work together with on this, the beauty of having an emergency getaway plan is that it gives everyone a common place to meet up at, if there is ever a huge disaster or emergency.
Building a Small Cabin or Shelter
There are several ways to get a survival shelter built, whether it is in the form of a small cabin or an underground bunker type of shelter.
-
- Buy a small cabin and move it onto a cement slab at your spot.… the cons of this is that often the road in and out of remote areas will not allow for a big truck to get in.
- Build a log cabin with materials at hand.… this can be a fun challenge and is quite inexpensive but will take some time.
- Find some decent small cabin plans and build a shelter in a few weekends. As long as you can get it built and a roof on it, you can start stocking it as you finish out the inside of it.
- If your property is on a hillside you can build a dugout shelter. Dig into the hill and build a fallout shelter / storage room all in one.
You will want to do some research on building fallout shelters though as I am sure they need to be a certain distance below ground surface to be effective.
Build an underground shelter… here are some very unique underground cement bunkers that people are building for survival shelters.
And if you are trapped in an urban area with no finances to do anything other than stock up the barest of necessities, then you may want to do some research on Urban Survival to make the most out of your situation.
There are a TON of ways you can prepare for emergency preparedness WITHOUT leaving your home.
